The Flea Analysis My copy of the poetry notes that "Fleas were a popular model for jocose[humorous] and amatory[love] poetry in all countries at the Renaissance". Their popularity stems from an microscope stage that happened in a literary salon (a place where poets and others came to speak poetry and converse). The salon was run by two ladies, and on on occassion a flea happened to land upon one ladys breast. The poets were amazed at the creatures audacity, and were inspired to write poetry about the beast. It soon became a la mode(predicate) among poets to write poems about fleas.
In this poe m, the "I" of the poem is assembly in bed with his lover, and onerous to get her to demonstrate her virginity to him.
